It’s a spin-off of her successful novels Secrets of a Soap Opera Diva and Young and the Ruthless.Į spoke with Rowell to learn about her vision for The Rich & the Ruthless show, what she took away from this year’s ESSENCE Festival and her participation in the new ESSENCE counter-stereotyping campaign, #HeIsNotASuspect.Į: What’s the focus of The Rich & the Ruthless? Victoria Rowell, who participated in the ESSENCE Festival’s Empowerment Experience, has started a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to launch the show, which she describes as a dramedy that exposes the workings of the soap opera business. This year, Rowell teamed up again with AMC Networks/RLJ Entertainment streamer/ UMC.tv using her interior design prowess for the original limited Series, Trash vs Treasure, working with people to reimagine their spaces with reused or items purchased on a budget.We fell in love with her ballerina-turned-model character Drucilla Winters on The Young and the Restless and now she’s plotting her move back to our TV screens with the upcoming series, The Rich & the Ruthless. Rowell appeared in two subsequent BET HER movies from the same series, The Waiting Room: A Long Look in the Mirror and Like, Comment, Subscribe in October 2020 as part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Rowell also co-executive produced several Christmas holiday movies for Uplifting Entertainment Network.
Rowell historically directed Viacom/CBS BET HER movie, Everything Is Fine, focusing on mental wellness in a black family. She executive produced and directed the film Jacqueline and Jilly, which addressed the Opioid addiction crisis in a well to do Virginian black family. Rowell has offered more than acting to Hollywood as she has produced and directed several projects. After her departure from the show in 2007, Rowell went on to star in several made for TV films such as the Lifetime TV remake of Jane Austen’s classic, Pride & Prejudice, where she played Catherine Darcy.
